Sycophant: My favourite songs. Each week I will profile briefly a particular song that I adore, provide lyrics, and anything else that comes to mind.
Islam).
I absolutely love this song. Stevens always had/has a way of making a simple song something much more than you would have expected. With later versions of this I found they lacked the same emotionality. Sheryl Crow's voice lacked the depth that the song needs/ I felt her version was bland and too poppy as if auto-tone decided to take over. Rod Stewart... I never connected with his version. I have a mild affinity for James Morrison's cover, but like most songs, I will always prefer the original even if it was not the first version I heard.
Simplicity is often the best way to my musical heart, and this is no exception.
I would have given you all of my heart
But
theres someone
whos torn it apart
And shes taking almost all that Ive got
But if you want, Ill try to love again
Baby Ill try to love again but I know
The first cut is the deepest, baby I know
The first cut is the deepest
cause when it comes to being lucky shes cursed
When it comes to
lovin me shes worse
But when it comes to being loved shes first
Thats how I know
The first cut is the deepest, baby I know
The first cut is the deepest
I still want you by my side
Just to help me dry the tears that Ive cried
Cause
Im sure gonna give you a try
And if you want, Ill try to love again
But baby, Ill try to love again, but I know
The first cut is the deepest, baby I know
The first cut is the deepest
cause when it comes to being lucky shes cursed
When it comes to
lovin me shes worse
But when it comes to being loved shes first
Thats how I know
The first cut is the deepest, baby I know
The first cut is the deepest
